About Kilimanjaro Aid Project

What is Kilimanjaro Aid Project (KAP)?

Where do you operate?

We operate primarily in the Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions of Tanzania, East Africa. Our programs reach remote rural villages where access to basic services like education, healthcare, and electricity is limited. We work in communities such as Lerangwa, where we're building a new primary school, and surrounding areas in the Longido and Enduimet districts. Our focus is on areas that have been traditionally underserved and where our interventions can create the greatest impact.

What makes KAP different from other organizations?

KAP stands out through our grassroots approach and direct community engagement. We don't just identify problems from afar – we live and work directly in the communities we serve. Our programs are developed based on actual community needs identified through continuous dialogue with local leaders and residents. We emphasize sustainability by involving community members in every stage of our projects, from planning to implementation. Additionally, over 600 solar panels distributed, multiple schools supported, and ongoing healthcare initiatives demonstrate our commitment to measurable, lasting impact.

Donations & Funding

How are donations used?

100% of your donation goes directly to our programs and projects in Tanzania. We allocate funds across six core areas: (1) Education Programs – School construction, supplies, and teacher support; (2) Healthcare Access – Medical supplies and health education; (3) Solar Energy – Distributing solar panels to off-grid homes; (4) Food Security – Nutrition programs and agricultural support; (5) Community Support – Assistance for elders, widows, and vulnerable families; (6) Operations – Minimal administrative costs to keep programs running. We provide regular updates and impact reports to all donors showing exactly how funds are being used.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

We provide donation receipts for all contributions. Tax deductibility depends on your country of residence and local tax laws. We recommend consulting with a tax advisor in your jurisdiction to determine if your donation qualifies for tax benefits. For donations within Tanzania, we can provide official receipts recognized by the Tanzania Revenue Authority. For international donors, we work with partners to facilitate tax-deductible giving where possible.

Can I support a specific project?

Yes! You can designate your donation to specific projects such as the Lerangwa School construction, solar panel distribution, education support, healthcare programs, or any of our other initiatives. When making your donation, simply specify which project you'd like to support. However, we also greatly appreciate unrestricted donations, as these allow us the flexibility to direct funds where they're needed most urgently and can create the greatest impact in our communities.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept various secure payment methods including credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard), bank transfers, mobile money (M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Tigo Pesa), and PayPal. All online transactions are processed through secure, encrypted payment gateways. For larger donations or institutional giving, we can arrange direct bank transfers. We also accept recurring monthly donations to provide sustained support for our programs. Contact us at info@kilimanjaroaidproject.org for alternative payment arrangements.

Volunteering Opportunities

How can I volunteer with KAP?

We welcome volunteers who are passionate about making a difference! To volunteer, start by filling out our volunteer application form on our website. Tell us about your skills, experience, availability, and areas of interest. We offer both on-site volunteering in Tanzania and remote opportunities (virtual volunteering, fundraising, social media support, etc.). Our team reviews each application and matches volunteers with suitable opportunities. We'll contact you within 7-10 days to discuss next steps and available placements.

What types of volunteer opportunities are available?

We offer diverse opportunities including: Education Support – Teaching, tutoring, and educational material development; Healthcare – Medical professionals for health camps and training; Construction & Engineering – School building, solar installation, water projects; Community Development – Program coordination and community outreach; Fundraising – Event planning and donor engagement; Digital/Remote – Website management, social media, graphic design, grant writing; Agriculture – Sustainable farming and food security programs. Placements range from 1 week to 12+ months depending on the role and your availability.

Do I need special qualifications or experience?

Requirements vary by role. Some positions (medical, teaching, engineering) require specific qualifications and certifications. However, many opportunities are open to anyone with enthusiasm, dedication, and a willingness to learn. We value diverse skills and backgrounds – whether you're a student, professional, retiree, or simply someone who cares about making a difference, there's a place for you. Strong English communication skills are helpful, and basic Swahili knowledge is a plus but not required. Most importantly, we look for volunteers who respect local culture, work well in teams, and are committed to our mission.

What are the costs involved in volunteering?

Volunteers are responsible for their own travel expenses, accommodation, meals, insurance, and personal costs. We can help arrange affordable local accommodation (approximately $15-30 per night) and provide guidance on living expenses in Tanzania. Some long-term volunteers may be eligible for accommodation support depending on funding availability. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel and health insurance. Remote/virtual volunteers have no additional costs beyond their regular internet connection. While volunteering requires self-funding, the experience and impact you'll create are invaluable.

Programs & Impact

What is your biggest project right now?

Our flagship project is the Lerangwa Primary School construction. We're building a complete new primary school to serve 928 children in Lerangwa village, Longido District. The existing school is severely overcrowded with only 7 functional classrooms for nearly 1,000 students, inadequate sanitation, and a severe shortage of desks and teachers. This $105,000 project will construct modern classrooms, administration buildings, separate toilets for boys and girls, a water point, and provide all necessary furniture and teaching materials. The new school will transform education in the community and give hundreds of children the opportunity for a better future. Learn more on our Lerangwa School Project page.

How do you measure the impact of your programs?

We track impact through multiple metrics including: Quantitative data – Number of beneficiaries served, schools supported, solar panels distributed, health services provided, children sponsored; Qualitative assessments – Community feedback, success stories, testimonials from beneficiaries and local leaders; Regular monitoring – Site visits, progress reports, photo/video documentation; Third-party evaluation – Independent assessments of program effectiveness; Financial transparency – Regular financial reports showing fund allocation and expenditure. We share detailed impact reports with all donors and stakeholders, and publish annual reports highlighting our achievements and challenges.

How sustainable are your programs?

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We ensure long-term impact by: (1) Community ownership – Involving locals in every stage from planning to implementation; (2) Capacity building – Training community members to maintain and manage projects; (3) Local partnerships – Working with government, local NGOs, and community organizations; (4) Income generation – School farming, small business support to reduce dependency; (5) Ongoing support – We don't build and leave – we maintain relationships and provide continued assistance; (6) Environmental consciousness – Solar energy, sustainable agriculture, water conservation. Our goal is to empower communities to thrive independently.
